Laughing Iguana Book Signings

Lake Claremont Press books and authors will be in the South Loop at The Laughing Iguana on Sunday, December 17th from noon until 5:00 p.m. for a special holiday sale. An enthusiastic supporter of LCP, Laughing Iguana owner Marifran Carlson will host us in her fun and funky space at 1247 S. Wabash.

Susan Blumberg, author of All the Tea in Chicago, will be with us from noon until 2:30 p.m. Her sleek guide (fits perfectly in a stocking) helps both the seasoned tea drinker and novices find the best tea in Chicago. Due to the increased popularity of tea, one can now find a plethora of tea offerings in Chicago. All the Tea in Chicago is the first guide to citywise tea drinking, with reviews of nearly 60 tea establishments. Makes a great hostess or holiday gift for someone looking to stay warm this winter!

Lake Claremont Press author Carolyn Eastwood will autograph copies of her book, Near West Side Stories: Struggles for Community in Chicago's Maxwell Street Neighborhood, from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Near West Side Stories is an ongoing story of unequal power in Chicago. Author Carolyn Eastwood details the stories of four representatives from immigrant and migrant groups that have had a distinct territorial presence in the area—one Jewish, one Italian, one African-American, and one Mexican. These extraordinary ordinary people reminisce fondly on life in the old neighborhood and tell of their struggles to save it and the 120-year-old Maxwell Street Market that was at its core. Carolyn Eastwood's extensive travels and studies have concentrated on markets, vendors, and ethnic occupations in low-income communities.

In addition, Lake Claremont Press will feature titles from 2006 including the second edition of Marilyn Pocius's A Cook's Guide to Chicago, Rick Kogan's A Chicago Tavern: A Goat, a Curse, and the American Dream--an affectionate tale of Chicago's beloved and infamous Billy Goat Tavern--and The Politics of Place: A History of Zoning in Chicago by Dana Caspall and Joseph Schwieterman. Trunk Show at Scents and Sensibility

Lake Claremont Press is headed back to Rockwell St. for a day! Our books will be featured in the chic Rockwell Crossing boutique Scents and Sensibility during a one-day trunk show tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our former neighbor, Scents and Sensibility is a friendly neighborhood boutique with a wide range of gifts and home accessories (think fresh flowers, unique soaps and candles, fetching jewelry, and adorable pieces for the little ones). Coupling our selection of Chicago books with their offerings, you can find gifts for everyone on your list in one place (4654 N. Rockwell St.).
