What Would Jane Say?

Getting an early start on the citywide plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Burnham's Plan of Chicago in 2009, the Chicago Metro Section of the American Planning Association offers "Daniel Burnham, Big Thinkers, and the Future of the Metropolis" for their November program.

2009 LCP author, Jan Metzger of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, will be presenting on what Jane Addams and other city-building women of the era would have contributed to the Plan of Chicago.

AMERICAN PLANNING ASSOCIATION – CHICAGO METRO SECTION
NOVEMBER 2008 PROGRAM

Daniel Burnham, Big Thinkers, and the Future of the Metropolis

2009 will be a big year for the Chicago region. The 100th anniversary of Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett's 1909 Plan of Chicago will be celebrated through numerous events, exhibits, lectures, competitions, artistic undertakings, legacy projects, regional planning efforts, and general reflections.

Planners in northeastern Illinois live and work in this legacy every day. Get a jump-start on the
celebration by joining us “on the eve of the centennial” for a provocative look at what this
monumental planning legacy has meant for the planning profession and the region…and what
Burnham and Bennett might have done differently had they undertaken this effort today.
